Surgical No. 10R scalpel dermaplaning removes hyperkeratinized corneocytes and fine vellus hair at a calibrated 45-degree blade angle.
We deliver medical dermaplaning with single-use sterile carbon steel blades across face and upper neck zones, clearing surface dead cells before topical active infusion.
Per session (45 minutes). Standalone surgical dermaplane with active botanical soothing mask is 95 USD. The full protocol including 20 minutes of 830nm LED phototherapy and topical high-molecular hyaluronic acid infusion is 175 USD. Dermaplaning can also be added to facial extractions for 55 USD.
Technical instrument specifications and blade geometry
Consumer dermaplaning razors use jagged serrated metal. We operate strictly with medical surgical blades manufactured to surgical sharpness standards.
| Parameter | Clinical Specification | Functional Dermal Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Blade Profile | Sterile No. 10R "Butterblade" | Rounded bullnose tip prevents accidental nicking of contoured tissue |
| Material Class | Medical-grade carbon steel | Superior initial edge retention compared to flexible stainless steel |
| Operating Plane | Strict 45-degree inclination | Shaves dead corneocytes while gliding above viable papillary dermis |
| Tissue Tension | Two-point biomechanical stretch | Prevents skin folding or dragging along nasal folds and mandibular edge |
| Packaging & Disposal | Single-use gamma-irradiated pack | Sharps container disposal immediately following single-client session |
Removing 2 to 3 weeks of dead desquamated keratinocytes eliminates the physical barrier that blocks topical active serums. Topical peptides and low-molecular hyaluronic acid penetrate up to 60 percent deeper immediately following blade passage.
Vellus hair traps sebum, urban particulate pollution, and cosmetic pigments. Dermaplaning shears this hair at the follicle orifice. Contrary to popular superstition, vellus hair never grows back thicker or darker because blade contact does not stimulate follicular blood supply.
Clinical practitioner credentials and safety standards
Scalpel treatments carry blade risk when performed by untrained operators. Our practice standards are backed by North Carolina state licensure and ASCP certification.
Credentialed through the North Carolina State Board and an active member of Associated Skin Care Professionals (ASCP), Casey Finch maintains comprehensive advanced certification in mechanical scalpel exfoliation and cross-infection prevention.
Blades are opened directly in front of the client from sealed foil packaging. Stainless steel scalpel handles are autoclaved in certified heat sterilization pouches. After treating the cheek, chin, forehead, and neck, the blade is discarded immediately into a regulated OSHA sharps container.
"If you have active pustular acne or an inflamed cystic lesion, a scalpel has no business touching that area. We glide around active breakouts, or postpone blade exfoliation entirely in favor of ultrasonic pore extraction and calming LED light therapy."Casey Finch, LE/LI • SkinLuxes Charlotte NC
The 45-minute clinical treatment breakdown
Every step is timed to maintain skin comfort, eliminate surface oil, and replenish the dermal barrier post-blade.
We double-cleanse the skin with a lipid-soluble gel followed by a gentle balancing witch hazel prep. The skin surface must be completely dry and grease-free so the scalpel glides cleanly without sticking to residual sebum.
Working systematically across forehead, temples, cheeks, chin, and mandibular line, Casey holds the skin taut with gloved fingers while executing short feathering strokes at 45 degrees. Dead keratin and vellus hair accumulate onto sterile gauze.
With the hyperkeratinized stratum corneum removed, we apply clinical serums rich in copper tripeptides, panthenol (vitamin B5), and fragmented hyaluronic acid to rehydrate freshly revealed epidermal cells.
We calm transient surface flushing using chilled surgical steel cryo-globes over a biocellulose sheet. Treatment finishes with an oil-free, non-comedogenic physical zinc oxide sunscreen to shield delicate skin from UV exposure.
Contraindications and who this treatment is not for
We will not run a surgical blade across compromised or inflamed skin tissue under any circumstances.
Clients seeking instant epidermal smoothness, removal of noticeable facial vellus hair, improved cosmetic application, or enhanced penetration for subsequent chemical peels and home serums.
Active cystic or pustular acne lesions (risk of spreading bacteria). Active rosacea with raised telangiectasia or severe facial flushing. Skin tags, raised moles, or open abrasions. Recent chemical peels or laser treatments within the previous 14 days. Active herpes simplex virus.
Mild transient erythema may appear for 30 to 60 minutes after treatment. There is no peeling, flaking, or crusting. You can return to normal social and work schedules in Charlotte immediately.
